Adults cited for a DUI offense in Ventura County will be ordered to make their first appearance at one of the courthouses above. Citations issued in the western part of the county go to Ventura Hall of Justice while those issued in the eastern part go to East County Courthouse (Simi Valley).
The first court appearance is called an arraignment and presents you with the opportunity to plead “guilty,” “not guilty,” or “nolo contendere” (no contest) to a criminal charge.
Arraignments at Ventura Hall of Justice for DUI charges at are heard in the following courtrooms:
- Misdemeanor DUI arraignments:
- Felony DUI arraignments:
Arraignments at Ventura Hall of Justice for charges other than DUI are heard in:
- Misdemeanor arraignments:
- Felony arraignments:
All arraignments at East County Courthouse (Simi Valley) are heard in Department S1.
NOTE: All East County Courthouse (Simi Valley) cases are transferred to Ventura Hall of Justice following arraignment for pre-trial and jury trial proceedings.
DUI charges arising in Ventura County are prosecuted by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
We advise everyone to arrive early for court, find his or her name on the court calendar, and check-in with the bailiff in the appropriate courtroom. You should be able to find your name on the list posted on or just outside of the courtroom doors.
